Jamaica Football Dying Fast

veryangry.gifveryangry.gif To know what and where we were ‘98 and to see where we are now it is unbelievable Crenston Boxhill  bottom.gif has done this country the greastest disservice. That any public servant has ever done and it is not punishable. I think he should be deported. His list of non-achievement yuck.gif is too long for my blog space but i will point out some of the glaring ones…..

  • No Match in the office.
  • The U23 Losing to Bahamas just yesterday (Oct. 11).
  • Building of a Football Academy with no football field and no clue when it will finish.
  • The biggest slide ever on FIFA ranking a not even going to note it.
  • And last but definitely not the least the highest paid “foreign” coach ever, who is doing nutten!!! NOTHING!!!!! but collecting J$1.34mil every week.
  • The continued bundling of administrative matters, eg. being fined for not taking part in a competition because we could not get a flight for the team.

                                              bora.jpg                              bora-m.jpg

Now this Coach Name is chair.gif Bora Milutinović  his record speak for itself …but when a coach is going to say after losing several matches that winning is not important ….. ranting.gif i start see a whole lot of red flags waving alarm.gif . He doesn’t care a catshoot about his reputation anymore, know why? because he is now collecting his pension and we are the ones paying it. A mean this man says that, with the amount he is being paid, his only concern is the senior team. The head coach of our programme getting $1.34million, losing left right and centre the and the youth programme in shambles ….and he goes missing whenever he feels like ……. Look seriously Bora has got to go … take a flight …….. BORA TEK WHEY YUHSELF moto.gif !!!!  thank you.

A Bex.. Bex Bad

How the hell can music loving Jamaica…. not vote for Lenya Wilks thus causing her to be voted off Rising star. Cho Bom#@ Cl*#@ .. a vex nuh rass. I am an unapologetic fan of rising star.

Personally for me it has a combination of two things i love dearly Jamaica and Muzik. So i got to support it as mundane as it might seem to some. She is the best thing since this competion started, even better than the recent American Idol winner Jordin Sparks.

Why this happened befuddles and baffles me, my best assessment is that everyone took it for granted that she had it pat, meaning, she was a sure winner, so everyone collectively just didnt bother to vote, expecting that the other person was already voting. That for me is the only rational explaination. Howelse could this happen, believe me she is that good. Anyway the world will soon hear her talent she is too good to be stopped just watch and see.

Hey Lenya girl you may not be the click here for info on the competion >>> rising star but you are my star …hey guys meet  Lenya Wilks, remember her cause this is a name you’ll all be having at the tip of your tongue soon.

A Letter To My Prime Minister Bruce Golding

 prime-minister.jpg

Dear Sir Our Honourable Prime Minister O. B. Golding

Allow me this opportunity to congratulate you on your ascension to the highest public post that we have in our blessed land we love. It was an hard fought battle, personally i don’t think the battle has come to a conclusion has yet, but we’ll see.

You personally got my attention, the day you took on to yourself the role of convert. Speaking glowingly of your changes and your principles that you have now adopted. You offered a straw and i held on to it with my heart heavy with doubt, i rode that doubt out and decided to take a chance with blind hope.

Well, here you are, not by any major doing on my part, but you are at the helm. Allow me to remind you that power corrupts, remember that. Be steadfast in your doings, and hold true to your words as it was spoken today (sept. 11,) at your inauguration. To you much has been given and from you much is expected.

You made a slip, and for me a really bad one when you lied about the discussion you had with the commissioner of police, in regards to the state of emergency, that is strike one for you, you have two more strikes to go. Be careful be really careful.

There are those among you, who i am sure do not share the same perceived passion you continue to exhibit, for wanting a united and prosperous country, they have other plans. They fought tooth and nail like rabid dogs to help get you there…… they are hungry and will need to be fed, cause if not they will turn on you and rip you to shreads. So my advice to you; chain them and do it quickly, we cannot afford their pang like desires.

There is a very thin line between love and hate, very very thin, i profess no love for you, but i have faith and i have showed charity, and i took a chance and trusted you, placed in you my hope, the future of my “kedked”, Please don’t ramp with my vote!!!

Yours a faithful

Jamaican Citizen

The Chronicles of pre & post Dean survival

The days are reflective of the days of the month of August, Dean touched based on the 19th of of the month. This is my story.

Day 17th : After having experienced Gilbert thru to Ivan, which would make it about 5 hurricanes, i didnot need any prompting on what needed to be done. So from early out i got in my tin products, plastic; plates, cups, and forks, pig tail, saltfish, red herring, couple battries, had a whole bunch from the last hurricane, plus i filled both cars with gas.

After all that, i then tied down the awning, locked the outlet valve for the water tank, got out all the lamps and the radio……… and then i waited.

Day 18th : I needed to get in a few knicks knacks so i hit the plaza, super plus was super ful, so i chanced mega mart and it was mega full, so i guess the likkle knicks knacks get knock. The last known position of Dean had it on a direct course with the Morant Bay point and it was travelling at 17mph with winds of 150mph ….it not looking good. If this eye clap us i know for a fact we would literally be pushed back to the dark ages. So, i just don’t think about it. We decided to watch some dvd movies and ensured that all that can be charged is….. darkness decends on us i am worried about where to park the cars, cause there is this very large tree that is across the road from us and with those anticipated winds, those branches will be deadly missiles for my wind shield. Have some time left, to still deal with that, so…. off to bed. Dean is predicted to hit us about 10:00am or there about, so i got some time left.

Day19th: Got up early, really need to secure the vehicles but that is proving to be a problem and even if i deceided to park both in the yard, the previous dilemma, doesnot entertain that option. I deceided on asking one of my goodly nieghbour to allow me to park in their yard, the better of two evil. i leave the honda in our drive way, which is comprehensively insured, and take the mitsubushi over by my nieghbour which has a coverage that just allow us to meet the required regulations.

Well, all we can do is wait …… the wind gush starts to increase in force, we lose power so now it is only the radio, which is very poor in its coverage of the hurricane itself, so i am not sure excatly where it is. We sit at the window and watch.

               dsc00204.jpg

Dean is upon us and he howls his screech of terror, the rain is light but the wind is determine. But i kknow i have seen worst this is not looking like ivan or even gilbert mmmmmmm??? Need to find out what is happening cause this deanie fellow looks weak. Well it would seem that deanie decided to go south as much as 70miles south. “Nah test the spanish town bad bwoy them…..” ha ha a likle local humour.

Well deanie did me a favour he trimmed the tree that  needed trimming and just made a whole lot a noise. Darkness came and if it was not for the lack of power it would seem like a normal rainy night with some wind gush.

Day20th: Out early again, needed to see the damages that deanie threatened us with, strange the streets were very dry, now that is a first. A lot of small branches littered, couple electrical pot heads broken, a few awning had taken flight or were shredded. Reports indicated that in few areas, it had been devastating, but where i was deanie was a wimp, which is good mind you. Now it is time to survive……

Day 21st: We had a whole stock of water, plus several containers were placed out side to catch the rain water so as facilitate sewerage disposal, plus with the disposable plates and cups we were able to  conserve on water usage. so today was a good day.

Day 22nd: To get by each day of the post Dean era, i have been playing psp games (socom, untold legends brotherhoodof the blade and cars) with my likkle ked ked which was fun, she really enjoyed this, cause she had both mom and dad all to herself without the distraction of work, so far …. however today mom goes into the office so it will be just me, and the ice had started to run low and the water too, but the water was not much of a concern right now cause we can get that from the office. The ice is a issue and i drove out every single place that i could go, and they are all out. We will just have to try again tomorrow.

Aaaaaah what a pleasant surprise the power supply people, JPS, are in my community checking to ensure that all is well for them to energise our grid….. and then there was light.

And out of Darkness came light

And JPS said …let there be light (literally it was said over the broadcast radio), and on the close of August 22, 2007 @ 11:30pm, there was light, and those gathered in the multitude were pleezed. They song cheers of joy and relief, whistling tones of high praises, and JPS looked around, and then they smiled and whispered…………….

“Now we can lick dem with the double insurance cost to the bill, see how they so gay, they won’t even notice that they are getting it right up their …..beeeeeep   heh heh heh heh heh”

Any way folks ..I     ……..AM      ……BACK!!!!!!!! YIPPPPEEEEE!!!!! wonder what has been happening in the world, have some blogs to check tomorrow… well actually today ….Y’all know what i mean.

But wait a don’t even bathe yet ….. now if only a could just get the water back. Me and this bath pan wash up just nah work out eenuh!!! cho #$%^*%$$

Construction con’td… Hiring a contractor

This is my third installment on the topic Construction Process, my first was “the world of construction” and second “getting the construction started” . Again the purpose is just to help in passing on, what has been my life experience in an area i am about to move on from.

Hiring a Contractor using a Contract

Hiring a contractor is normally by word a mouth which is definitely the best recommended way. Why, because it would be based on recommendation from someone you know and trust and you would have access to some previous work they had done. However this does not guarantee that you’ll get the best possible price. The way to attempt this is by getting an estimate of cost, done by someone trained and qualified to do so. A Quantity Surveyour ( QS) would be your best option, there are other persons who are also qualified, anyone with a diploma in construction normally is just as apt to do so.

They would need the approved drawing plans from which they would generate this bill of qunatities, with this bill of quantities and the drawings the QS would develope a contract, which would form the nucleus of your instruction to the contractor.

You would then make a minimum of three copies of these contract and, excluding the costing has was done by your QS,  ask trusted contractors, to do what we call a tender process. This is where the contractor input his cost to efffect the works as is listed and as they are illustrated and annotated by the drawing. You would then use the 3 copies and compare them with what the QS developed, so has to make a much more guided decision.

Cheapest is not necessarily the best because sometimes a contractor will be offering a cost that is way below what it could credibly cost to do the work. The key is to ensure that the contractor is not excessively lower than the QS cost and that they can substantiate why they can do it at that cost. Even though it is a contract, why see the fire and go walk in it.

Some of the pit falls you must attune your mind to, is the language of the contract, meaning the different terms and conditions, the smaller the contract the less comprehensive it has to be in its language. Here are some of the terms you must make sure to be very aufait with; Liquidated damages, Variation, Contract duriation/period, Fluctuation, and Termination clause. These are areas of the contract that as the client i would implore that you ensure that you fully understand and that what is being annotated, you are in full agreement with it.

BTW THIS IS MY FIFTIETH POST, WHEW!!!!!!

A quiet day out

Took some time off from my hectic schedule to just relax my mind …. the kingston harbour usually does this, however i decided i needed more than just, the gentle rush of the waves against the sea wall …. the orchestrated sounds of the sea gull, the wind and the boats/ships moving around. Aaaahhh just the mere thought of it is so nice.

Yep i did that for about an hour and then followed my nose  up to the National Gallery where i was lucky enough to find the National Visual Arts Competition (Festival) going on. There was some entries by Jamaican teenagers which i was able to take some pictures of, click on pics to see them larger.

dsc00165.jpgdsc00166.jpg

These were ok but the one i picked was this one below….. sorry i totally forgot the name of it and who done it.

dsc00168.jpg

I really wanted to take some more especially the adults photography section which is on the mezzanine floor in the main hall. those were really awesome. I was stopped and advised that picture taking is not allowed. So i obeyed plus they were watching me. For those who can, check it out, its on until July 21. You love taking photograph, then, do go see.

HEROES

I heard this disscussion couple a years back some months after the 9/11 calamity, who are really heroes? The definition is quite clear in all our minds who an hero is….. so i guess we can safely say that Asafa, Sherone, Veronica, 98 Reggae boyz, Bob Marley, Shaggy, Sean Paul, Miss Lou and so much more, are easily icons associated with this title for many. Are they a source of inspiration, are they persons that we truly use to give us a lift to remember that “the brave may fall but never yield” (a never attended KC… need to declare that). Are these heroes, a beacon to which the average man can gaze in times of despair…. that is a question you’ll have to all answer for your self.

But for me i found a real down to earth hero, someone whom i am sure will be able to do just that for me and more. ……Allow me to introduce to you Mr. Linval Anderson.

l-anderson.jpglinval.jpg

The resilience of this ras is remarkable. What is so special about this man well here is his story…… He use to work with a factory as an electrical maintance personnel. About 8yrs ago he met into a very unfortunate accident where he was electrocuted, and was severly injured, resulting in the lost of his left arm and right leg. Now this man has been able to rise above his disabilities and soldiered on, he does not ask for hand outs nor squirm and blame the govt for not proving for him. Instead he goes out there and finds a mean to survive, which is by selling every possible newspaper he can get his hands on at the Mineral Heights round-a-bout in Clarendon.

He is affectionately called “oney” or “starry” by his few adoring fans. He ask humblly of those, who stops by his stall, kindly not to give him their sympathy, in other words yuh sorry fah, but give him their prayers, cause they strengthen him to get by. Whenever i pass, i always don’t have change and use a 5 hundred bill to make my purchase and just make him keep the change.  ;) I have also decided to join his fan club….oh and you do not need anything special to join.

This post will forever be my beacon and i can say without any doubt that, this man, he is my biggest hero. He has not given up, and reduced himself to a beggar and a scum of the earth, but instead he lifts his head up, stared down despair and smiled with his God …deciding to be indepent and stand on his own two feet (well one in this case). Unlike a lot who,.. actually have the complete use of both feet and hands ….and nuh ramp fi beg, geeeeez.

Big up oney !!!!!!!

Getting the Construction started

Normally for large scale construction it is recommended that you hire professionals to over see the project in its entirety. Of which they would  guide you has they are required to do by law. However for most of the mid and definitely the small scale one there are a few things you need to know. Firstly you need to decide the mode of construction management you are going to adopt.

  1. you can hire a contractor and have him procure both labour and material. Using a contract as the instrument of instruction for both parties. Which would be developed from the drawing.
  2. You can again hire a contractor but he would only procure the labour whilst, you would procure the material, of course a contract would be used to assist in providing guide lines, though not as comprehensive as in the first case scenario.
  3. You can attempt to hire the artisans and run the project has would a contractor, but be warned if you have no experience or knowledge of the field you are heading for trouble.
  4. And lastly you can go to an artisan or a group of them and engage them in an informal business transaction with the hope of keeping down cost by cutting out the so called “middle men” the professionals and literally pay through your nose, “penny wise pound foolish”.

I will discuss the pros and cons of all four options. Then guide you through the process of each option’s stages. After which, i will discuss some of the basic construction principles that the lay person should know so has to ensure that quality is assured through out the construction process.
